(3) Penghu County: “4688” Maternity Subsidy Program

Penghu County “4688 Maternity Subsidy”:

Additional Note: Regions commonly offering NT$40,000 for the first child include Taipei City, New Taipei City (starting 2026), Taitung County, and Penghu County (subject to local regulations).

Understanding the Difference: Maternity Subsidy vs. Maternity Benefit

Although they sound similar, they come from different systems:

  • Maternity Subsidy / Childbirth Incentive: Local government welfare programs, usually related to the baby’s household registration and parental residency requirements.

  • Maternity Benefit: A social insurance payment system (such as Labor Insurance or National Pension), usually related to insurance status.

In short: Maternity subsidies depend more on residency, while maternity benefits depend more on insurance coverage.

Parents Registered in Different Cities? Here’s How to Compare More Efficiently

When parents are registered in different cities or counties, it’s usually more efficient to first confirm these two points:

(1) Whether the baby’s household registration location meets local eligibility requirements
(2) Whether either parent meets residency duration requirements or other local conditions

If both sides qualify, then compare subsidy amounts and convenience to avoid unnecessary complications.

Reminder: Rules for determining “2nd Child” or “3rd Child” status may differ between regions. Please refer to official local government guidelines for accurate definitions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1: How long does it take to receive the maternity subsidy?

Processing and payment schedules vary by region. Please refer to local government notifications and procedures.

Q3: How are second-child and third-child subsidies calculated?

Each city and county may define birth order, twins/multiples, and residency requirements differently. This article focuses mainly on first-child reference amounts. For later-child subsidy details, please refer to official local government announcements.
